IMPORTANT STATE TOURNAMENT UPDATES!
DEADLINES: Early registration closes on March 25 at 12:00 pm MT, and FINAL registration closes on April 1 at 12:00 pm MT.
SPARRING: USA Taekwondo recently announced that the new, state-of-the-art Daedo GEN 3 PSS – including sparring gloves and socks – will be used at all USATKD sanctioned events. This includes the USATKD Colorado State Championship on April 11, 2026. Black belts will use the Gen 3 system; color belts will use the Gen 2 system. The vendor will be on-site to sell Gen 3 socks ($110) and gloves ($95) as well as Gen 2 socks ($95).
WEIGHT CATEGORIES: The weight categories available for athlete registration align with the USATKD weight divisions. For example, there are only 4 weight categories for senior color belt sparring athletes. Please see the USATKD website for more detailed information.
SPORT POOMSAE: All world class black belts (Youth and up) will be single elimination (side-by-side) with random draw. Black belt Tigers & Dragons and all red belts will be single elimination (side-by-side) with the poomsae draw published. Yellow, green, and blue belts will be cut off format with poomsae draw published. Pairs and teams will still compete one-at-a-time in the single elimination format.
TRADITIONAL POOMSAE: All belt ranks may register for traditional poomsae. This is a qualifying event for the USATKD National Championships (new this year!).
MUSIC FOR DEMO & FREESTYLE: Teams and athletes will submit their music in advance via DropBox – stay tuned for more information.
An updated tournament information packet will be posted to the COSTA website and to Sport80, but feel free to email secretary@cotkd.org with any questions.
As a reminder, the grassroots sparring, recreational demonstration team, and white belt divisions do not qualify athletes for the USATKD National Championships as those divisions will not be contested at that event.
